Rep. Noujaim decided against a chair and instead sat on the floor as he read the Dr. Seuss classic “The Foot Book” to more than 40 kids gathered at the Target store on Chase Avenue for the annual Waterbury Loves To Read event Saturday morning.

The event, part of Connecticut Loves To Read day and sponsored by the Nutmeg Reading Council, is in its 5th year at Target and featured more than 15 guest readers ranging from local and state politicians to Waterbury Police, firefighters, teachers and local authors. Children were able to snack on cookies and juice while their favorite books were read aloud. There were 2 separate craft projects, free pencils, bookmarks, stickers, a Connecticut Loves To Read t-shirt and a free book for all attendees.

“I’m happy to volunteer my time to encourage our children to read,” Rep. Noujaim said. “Education is very important to me and reading is an important foundation upon which learning is based. I’m willing to help in any way I can to promote literacy.”
